Deadly Kissing Bugs in Collin County

December 6, 2015

Deadly kissing bugs have been the talk of the town in North Texas news lately primarily because of the risk of spreading Chagas disease. Kissing bugs have a cone shaped head, thin legs and a long antenna. Many times they are black or very dark brown with a red or yellow stripe around the edge of their bodies.

If you happen to spot one of these in your yard please do not touch them with your bare hands, as their bodies may be infected with their own feces. The fecal matter is transmitted after they bite. The kissing bugs bite is generally not painful as they try to go undetected. Their most active period is generally dusk or at night time. They like to hang around wood piles, so if you have firewood stacked near your house it’s best to keep it away from your home so they can’t sneak into cracks within your home.
