Centipede & Millipede Control in McKinney
Many-Legged Pests Solved at the Source
Big D Pest & Termite has protected McKinney homes and businesses from pests since 2001. When centipedes or millipedes start showing up inside, we don’t just treat the surface. Our licensed and insured technicians look for the moisture and prey conditions drawing them in, then build a treatment plan around what’s actually happening in your specific home. Our solutions are formulated to be used around families and pets while staying potent against the pests themselves.

Centipedes vs. Millipedes: What You’re Looking At
Both belong to the Myriapoda group, but they behave very differently. Centipedes (class Chilopoda) have one pair of legs per body segment and move fast. The house centipede is the type most commonly found indoors: one to 1.5 inches long, with long legs and narrow dark stripes running down its segmented body. Millipedes (class Diplopoda) have two pairs of legs per segment, move slowly, and tend to burrow rather than dart.
Diet is another key difference. Centipedes are carnivores that hunt cockroaches, spiders, earthworms, and other small insects, so spotting one inside can mean other pest activity is already underway. Millipedes, by contrast, are detritivores that feed on decaying organic matter.
Why They’re Coming Inside
Moisture is the main driver. Millipedes seek damp shelter when outdoor conditions turn too dry or too wet, slipping in through door gaps, foundation cracks, and basement vents. Centipedes follow their prey, so wherever moisture attracts insects, centipedes aren’t far behind. Kitchens and bathrooms are the most common indoor hotspots for both, since that’s where household moisture concentrates.
North Texas weather plays a role too. The swing between hot, dry summers and wetter stretches pushes these occasional invaders toward the stable conditions inside your home. Addressing what’s attracting them is the most important step in managing activity indoors.
Health Risks to McKinney Families & Pets
Neither centipedes nor millipedes spread disease the way mosquitoes, fleas, or ticks can. Centipede bites are uncommon but can cause localized pain, swelling, redness, and temporary numbness. Small children and anyone with insect allergies should be monitored carefully after a bite. Millipedes don’t bite, but they can secrete a defensive fluid that irritates skin, eyes, and mucous membranes on contact.
That’s why the products we use matter. Ours are formulated to be potent against pests while being used according to label directions around the people and pets in your home.

Our Integrated Pest Management Approach
A single spray rarely solves a centipede or millipede problem. Effective control means understanding what’s attracting them, cutting off their entry points, reducing the moisture and prey sources sustaining them, and applying targeted treatment where it can have real impact. That’s the integrated pest management model we follow: address the pest’s life cycle, not just the symptom. Every treatment plan is specific to your property, your schedule, and your budget. We walk you through each step, explaining what we’re doing and why, so you know how to support long-term pest management. And because we stay current on the latest pest control products and techniques, our approach is precise and efficient.
Inspection
We start by identifying where centipedes or millipedes are entering, where moisture is concentrated, and what other pest activity may be contributing. This gives us the full picture before any treatment begins.
Moisture & Entry-Point Reduction
Removing what’s attracting these pests is foundational. We identify conditions that can be addressed through exclusion techniques and moisture control, reducing the appeal of your home as a harborage.
Targeted Treatment
We apply insecticidal treatments calibrated for centipede and millipede control, focusing on the areas where activity and conditions indicate they can be most effective.
Customer Education
Before we leave, we explain what we found, what we did, and what you can do to help keep conditions from reverting. Transparency is built into every visit.
